![]() What to pack for a winter Florida vacation? It’s what you may be thinking before fleeing the northern cold. Is it swimsuits, shorts, or jackets? Planning ahead can ensure you don’t overpack when every pound matters in your luggage. What to expect In Naples, Florida, there’s an average low of 61° F and an average high of 77° F in the winter. The area is reasonably humid so it will feel warmer than it really is during the day. Cold fronts occasionally move through with temperatures potentially dipping into the 30s, but rest assured, it heats back up quickly during the day and rarely lasts for more than a night or two. The average water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico is a cool and refreshing 66° F. You can also relax in our heated pool and hot tub at the Inn at Pelican Bay. What to pack for Florida Light Jacket - The early mornings can be chilly, so you’ll want a lightweight jacket that you’ll likely shed after a few hours when the sun gets higher in the sky. Shorts – If you’re from a particularly cold area, you will probably wear shorts most of the time. Khaki shorts are acceptable attire at most restaurants – even at some of the more upscale ones. Jeans - A good option but not always necessary. Since they can add considerable weight to your luggage, consider limiting to only what you need. Tank tops and T-shirts – Tank tops are great for outdoor activities and take up less space in your luggage. T-shirts are an essential item you can always layer onto with a button-up or jacket when needed. Swimsuit – Don’t forget your swimsuit! If you’re taking a vacation to Florida, chances are you’re planning to get wet. The Inn at Pelican Bay features a heated pool and hot tub so you can unwind after a long day or spend the whole day poolside with a cocktail and your favorite book. Workout clothes – If you’re an early riser, you can go for an early morning jog or head to our 24-hour fitness center to keep in shape. Dress clothes – If you’re planning to have a night out at one of Naples’ many upscale restaurants or the theatre, you may want button-up shirt/slacks for men or dress/slacks for women. But as we mentioned, Florida is more casual than most places, with khaki shorts with a polo or a sun dress often acceptable. Check ahead for any dress codes. Walking shoes – Naples has lots of outdoor activities and outdoor shopping. Stay comfortable with a good pair of walking shoes. Sandals – When asking what to pack for a winter Florida vacation in Naples, sandals are a must and a Florida staple. They’re perfect at and around the beach to keep your feet cool, and you won’t get sand in your socks. Sunglasses – The sugar-white sand, clear skies, and reflection from the water are all things that can intensify the sunshine. Consider a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes, so you don’t have to squint. Safe from the sun Sunscreen – Even though it may feel cooler, the sun is still pretty intense. You will want to protect yourself with plenty of sunscreen, and don’t forget to reapply every couple hours! Starting out your trip with a sunburn is the last thing you want to do. Dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Hat and long sleeves – If you don’t have a base tan or are sensitive to the sun, you’ll also want to consider a hat and long sleeves. Dry-fit and fishing shirts made from polyester can provide both UVA and UVB protection during the day, are fast drying, and keep you warm at night.
